  Professor Sir Patrick Bateson FRS
Emeritus Professor of Ethology at Cambridge University and formerly Provost of King's College, Cambridge.

Professor Sir Patrick Bateson FRS is President of the Zoological Society of London and was Vice-Chairman of the Museums and Galleries Commission. Elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of London in 1983, he became its Biological Secretary and Vice-President (1998 – 2005). He received a BA in Zoology with first class honours and a PhD in Animal Behaviour from Cambridge University. He gained a Harkness Fellowship, and was subsequently Head of the Department of Zoology at Cambridge. Patrick is one of the leading scientists in the country, with an outstanding international reputation having published over 250 scientific papers and book chapters, as well as advising Parliament on scientific matters.
